With weather predictions calling for temperatures in the 40’s, and wind chills in the 30’s you might think young swimmers and their parents would say "NO WAY!” to an outdoor end-of-season meet. However, 60 Swim Orlando Y swimmers and their families braved the weather to have a great meet in the Area 2 Championship this weekend in Altamonte Springs. The cloud of early morning steam rising off the pool was teasing warmth to our swimmers, many of whom were standing on the pool deck wrapped in blankets and gloves. Jumping in the water quickly turned into a game of who could get warm the fastest, and fast they were. Best times of the weekend were plentiful and we are not talking just 10ths of a second, we are talking 2-5 seconds in 50, 100’s and 200’s.
“I believe hell, contrary to the depictions of fire and brimstone, is actually an eternally cold swim meet, much like the one we are going to have today.”
Kai Honeck, March 9, 2008
"It's never too late to start. Some of America's top Olympic Gold Medallists did not start swimming until high school." - Mel Nash
