Mel's experience with club swimming is extensive. He was the founder and Aquatics Director of the Aggie Swim Club, orchestrating a growth from eight swimmers to 270. During his 25 years of leading the club, Mel worked with all ages. He helped produce Top 16 performances, Junior and Senior National qualifiers and Olympic Trials qualifiers...all from the age group ranks in a small college town where football is king.
Mel and Carol Nash designed and ran their successful and highly respected Aggie Swim Camp at Texas A&M University building it from 27 swimmers in 1991 to over 650 in 2004. They concentrated on individual attention, one-on-one coaching and excellent stroke technique.
In the fall of 2004, Mel and his wife and children began a year-long trip to see America. They visited 37 states, drove 16,000 miles and stopped at historical sites and National Parks including Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia and Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. They saw the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Mount Rushmore. Along the way they visited many swim teams and began to formulate a plan to create a camp/clinic business that truly taught excellent strokes to a broad range of ages and levels. Even when Mel was offered a number of positions in the college and club ranks, Mel and Carol chose to come to Orlando and create SwimFASTER, Incorporated. "I have always loved coaching and at this point in my career I wanted to find an avenue by which I could help a larger number of lives. As Director and Head Coach of Swim Orlando YMCA, I can work with all ages and abilities. Through direct coaching as well as guiding the coaches and swimmers through a well-planned, long-term development program we will carry the swimmers from their beginning in the sport to the highest level that they can achieve. Additionally, through the camps Carol and I are running at the Aquatic Center and our Clinics and Private Instruction I feel I can reach a wide range of young people and contribute to their success in, and enjoyment of, the sport which has given me so much." Mel and Carol bring with them years of experience in working with swim camps, clinics, age group and college swimming.
